CPD Booster – Learning to Read
Learning to Read is a CPD Booster sessions. These shorter sessions are designed to offer you some quick inspiration or targeted support in specific areas of your practice.
In this session then we will be looking at Learning to Read. Getting to know the difference you can make to children’s later ability – and enjoyment of – this really tricky skill.
Looking at letters in ways that mean something to young children
Reading can open up children’s minds and imagination to fantastical places. It offers them every source of information and inspires them in endless ways. Provided you help them discover their love of learning, and make sure it is nurtured and retained. We will look at reading – not simply as a process of decoding symbols, but as an enriching process of communication.
We will then challenge some common practices around early introductions to reading. And address some of the concerns your parents may be having.
We will also acknowledge and celebrate the huge difference that you can have on children’s approach to their reading. From their earliest experiences with you.
More than simply a set of recommended activities to follow
We will look at supporting key developments throughout their whole body that will support their later reading. And the steps you can take to foster the motivation and interest they will need to ever master it.
And of course, lots of support in delivering this throughout your setting.

Rather than the setting-wide development programmes of some other courses, CPD Booster sessions can be purchased for targeted staff. They may have a particular interest, or a job title that would make it specifically relevant to them.
You may have a parents evening coming up where this will be your area of focus. Perhaps you may have some issues that you need some quick guidance in. Or its simply time for appraisals and you need to plug those gaps!
